WinterStorm / Marsden misses out, but excitement is ramping up

With 35 acts across four days, the excitement for this year’s Winterstorm

With 35 acts across four days, the excitement for this year's Winterstorm Festival is building. With Tyketto announced last month on the Legends and Legacies bill, festival organisers have announced ticket updates along with the news that Bernie Marsden's "recovery from illness is taking longer than had been hoped, and he is unable to commit to being ready for the November date and is cancelling now."

Along with Tyketto, Brazilian rockers Electric Gypsy and Noturnall, Night Demon from California and old-school blues rockers, The Penetrations were all added to the bill last month. The latter is very fitting for WinterStorm, having been an Ayrshire blues rock institution since the ’70s. They will perform a blues and Metal fuelled set this year in Troon.

The lineup for this year's Winterstorm Legends and Legacies has been announced, and the long weekend in Troon, Scotland, is looking like a spectacular place to spend time in November.

The festival has been increased to three days, from Thursday, 23rd to Saturday 25th of November 2023, with details still to be announced for the After the ‘Storm event on Sunday, 26th.

"We always planned for our Legends and Legacies event to be bigger and better than ever, and we are thrilled to add Tyketto to the lineup this year," Ian McCaig told us. "Many people remember their incredible performance on the Troon stage back in 2017, and I’m sure we’re in for a treat when Danny Vaughn and the band return in November."

Based in and around Troon Concert Hall, WinterStorm now offers two stages and the After the ‘Storm Sunday performances, which see the event continue to expand its musical output each year. The Steve Strange Main Stage is a classic standing stage area with a three-sided seated balcony upstairs and a capacity of 850. The second stage offers 180 standing capacity and feels like an old-school student's union gig!

"It's been one of those challenging weekends for a couple of unrelated reasons," WinterStorm said in a Facebook post, "but the spirits have been raised in the past few hours with five booking notifications for 2023. So just a wee thank you to the guy from Troon, the two from Northern Ireland, the two from Lancashire, the four from France and two from Germany for trusting us with your time and money and joining the annual November party as well as taking us over the 700 (of 850) ticket mark per night for WinterStorm.

"We have touched on it before, and we have to again as we keep getting and reading messages about gigs, festivals and tickets and potential ticket buyers’ genuine worries and concerns in relation to cancelled events, Groupon discounts and late release giveaway tickets.

"The live rock market is still saturated; it was getting that way before COVID, and it got worse afterwards when too many misread the signs. There was no pent-up demand; there was a behavioural change, and supply was, and is, infinitely greater than real demand. The results are going to be seen for a while, and we at WinterStorm are part of that as we look to the future.

"However, WinterStorm will never discount tickets; if we don't sell them at the listed price, we won't sell them at less. Ever. We hope to sell out, absolutely, but not at the cost of our reputation. Should anything catastrophic occur (and we mean of COVID proportions), all of the funds are held separately for refund. Again (and repetition should not lessen the genuine sentiment in saying it), we continue to sell tickets for a wee event in Troon to all corners thanks to the support and positive feedback that all ticketholders have given us since day one.

"So, whilst five different bookings on a Monday morning may not be seen as a biggie but to us, it is the small things that add up, and it's so much better when we focus on the positives.
